Quartet Project

Start

To start a project like this is always immensely difficult.

It starts with a concept but in a very loose sense, nothing particularly visualised more a sense of what you want to achieve.  You start with the end and work back to the beginning.  Obviously there is more than one thing that you want to achieve and sometimes they are just not possible but at this concept stage you must continue to have no barriers.  Let yours and your team’s imagination run wild.  Go for concepts that seem impossible because you may find a way to achieve them.  Once you have the concepts you look at the how.

You must be careful not to be overwhelmed by the how, for the first few weeks don’t discount everything.  Look outside of your area for help as we did on this project.  Other disciplines be they art or sciences can bring a whole new perspective and solutions.  Solutions you could never have conceived of are now real.

The thrill can be immense but so can the pressure.  Working with different disciplines brings different working practices and varying pace just like when we designed the affiliate marketing tutorial.  This can be interesting but frustrating at times.  It is also bewildering wondering if everything will ever come together.  This is where strong project management is required, you are the director and you must be involved but not too involved.  The how begins to take shape although it is not until the final months that you get a full story board of how it will happen.

It’s here you start thinking of the who.  Some of the people will be there because of the how but many others will still be needed.  The how and the concept will very much govern the who and this is one of the easiest stages.  However getting the individuals you want is never straight forward.

The where also needs to be planned well in advance, but again subject to availability this is never such a big issue.
