The performance space will be immersed in the traditions and transformations of music composed by Stevie Wishart, whose work links medieval and present-day art forms.Stevie Wishart is collaborating with sound engineer Todor Todoroff to build a system of sensors to be worn by the musician and attached to the violin and hurdy-gurdy. These will transmit information to the virtual dancer and augment virtual instruments in real-time. They are seeking to discover what musical gestures are, how they affect the sounds we hear through translation into perceived sound variations.
The performance will show how the analysis of different elements of the music such as volume, pitch, spectral content and the musician?s gestures, can be mapped to the virtual body. Sound spatialization will also be used to reflect changes in camera angle in the virtual world and to give the audience triggers to the virtual body?s orientation in space.
